Our Process

Estate planning does not have to feel overwhelming. At Utah Wills & Trusts, we guide you through each step so you know what to expect, what decisions need to be made, and how your documents work together to protect you and your loved ones.

Simple and Straightforward

  • Schedule a Complimentary Consultation

The first step is to schedule a complimentary one-hour consultation. During this meeting, we will discuss your goals, your family, your property, and the type of planning that may be appropriate for your situation.

If you already have estate-planning documents, we can review your existing plan and discuss whether updates are needed. If you are starting from the beginning, we will help you understand the basic documents and planning options available.

  • Make Important Planning Decisions

After the consultation, we help you think through the decisions that matter most. This may include who should receive your property, who should manage your affairs, how your home and financial accounts should be handled, and who should make decisions for you if you become incapacitated.

For parents, this may also include planning for minor children, naming trusted decision-makers, and making sure your wishes are clearly documented.

  • Review and Sign Your Documents

Once your plan is prepared, we will review the drafted documents with you and answer your questions. Our goal is to make sure you understand what you are signing and that your documents accurately reflect your wishes.

After any needed revisions are made, we will coordinate the signing of your estate-planning documents.

  • Fund Your Trust and Update Beneficiaries

Completing your documents is an important step, but it is not always the final step. If your plan includes a trust, certain assets may need to be retitled into the name of the trust. This may include your home, certain financial accounts, and other property.

You may also need to update beneficiary designations on life insurance, retirement accounts, bank accounts, or investment accounts so they coordinate properly with your estate plan. We help you understand these next steps so your plan works the way it was intended to work.
